Egg fried rice
« on: July 03, 2013, 13:31 »
Any really tasty and quick egg fried rice recipes out there?
I don't eat bread (fattening) so looking for a good way to eat my forthcoming eggs.... looking forward to trying it out...

Currently - I fry some onion and garlic, beat an egg and throw it in, mix in cooked rice, eat with bits of salmon on top.......   any improvement on this?

I use this method:

For the meaty bits, I usually use cooked, chicken or pork and prawns. The fridge cold rice bit is important though, so it is quick to make once you have some of it around. :)

Like the sound of putting ginger in....
Yes I suppose bread itself isn't fattening but we usually have to spread something on it...

I've been using one egg and brown rice (detoxing) but the BBC recipe looks so good.....

Thank you!

The ginger is great in it. :D I always buy brown (long grain) rice too, never white and it works really well in that recipe. :)

Bacon is nicer than ham as it flavours everything. You cook it in the rice.

Also don't forget to add MSG. It makes all the difference.  :)

Cooking the rice in chicken stock makes it very scrummy too... and don't forget the soy sauce!  :)

Not a necessary addition when the ginger is used. :)

Can't wait to try it as detox time can get boring food wise. Great to find something SO scrummy permissible :D

I'm amazed nobody has commented on the sesame oil being optional in that recipe above. Sesame is compulsory for egg fried rice. Compulsory. Olive oil is for tomatoes and the like.

I'll give sesame oil a go - I'm not a foodie though and probably won't notice the difference!

I didn't think you had fried foods when detoxing :(

I always add it but there will be more than one reason why it is optional.

  • Nut allergy
  • It's a strong flavour which may not appeal to all
  • It only takes a few drops to make quite a flavour difference and overdoing it may not appeal

The recipe doesn't mention olive oil..

Oil allowed on detox:

Grapeseed, sesame, pumpkin seed, olive and walnut oil all OK. I'm using vegetable oil (tiny bit) just for this so a bit of a cheat. Where I'm doing badly is cold showers (ugh) and mineral salt bath - never done it!!!
Nice massage booked in week after next though :tongue2:

2 more weeks to go and will so look forward to that next cup of tea!
