I have just taken delivery of some buff orphington eggs from ebay (i've never got eggs from ebay before)
I was suprised at how small they are, no more than a couple of inches high. And much smaller than our eggs that I normaly incubate.
Is this normal? , never having orphingtons before I have no idea ( i supect they are from a young bird) and will any that sucesfully hatch still make a decent sized bird?
Also can anyone see any problem with storing them in a cool room until wednesday, when my incubator will be free? I had planned on a broody but she decided she wasn't this morning! This is assuming of course that they are as fresh as the seller says they are
Thanks a lot

Hi Owein
I'd check the air cell first see how big/small it is :) If the air cell is tiny then they are fresh :D
Presume they were dispatched yesterday and all being well fresh yesterday then you MIGHT be ok :)
Sounds like they are from young birds if the eggs are on the small size, what colour are they?
Sarah :)

Yes tinyish air cell so not worried about he freshness.
Colourwise they are a very normal looking yellowy cream colour
Thanks

My orpington eggs were quite big when I got them for the inccy!! 2 ins is quite big!! if you store them at room temp and turn the box they are in everyday just once they should be o.k.
I am not convinced these were orpingtons as I had blacks and buffs. mine were not cream, are you sure she had not got any other breeds there that they may have been confused with!!
Good luck.

The Buff Orpington eggs I got were cream and an unremarkable size but they were definitely buff orpingtons! I would have thought you should be ok. Good luck!

I must admit the eggs I hatched seemed rather small (especially after the ex-bats eggs) but they were definatley buff orps that came out!

There are large fowl orps and bantam ones. My large fowl buff orps usually lay quite big eggs but one or two lay some smaller ones - i suppose you will just have to wait and see :)
