I have been away, and only just caught up.  As soon as I saw pics, I thought 'oh no, they're marestail'     
We had it very badly were I used to live, and a neighbour dug his complete veggie garden down 2 spades, and then started again.  But it still came back.   I used to send the children out just to pick what they could - for a very small fee of course.  Good Luck, Mrs Bouquet
