as the title suggests, I need to move some rhubarb.  I inheritted it along with my raspberrys and need to move it to a better spot (and to make way for my new rasied beds).........

so when is the best time? is there a good time?

i uploaded a picture so you can see what a sorry state it's in, so should I even be bothering?  I don't like to throw things away unless I have to!

sorry to keep asking daft questions. ;)

Late February through to end of March is the usual time to plant new plants.  But traditionally any time from October to Spring is fine for repositioning it. Assuming you are not cropping from it now it is feaseable to move it now.

When choosing a site make sure it is well drained and full of well rotted manure.  Rhubarb loves full sun but protection from wind.

Don't forget to have a go at forcing it for an early and most tasty crop in the spring.

Good luck - Rugbymad40

Ah so you can move it now if it's died back? I did wonder if I really had to wait until October/November. Guess that's one more thing on the to do list.
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

I was given a large rhubarb last August Heather, not the best time to move anything.  It died down, so I covered it with straw and dry lawn mowings, then early this year it leapt out of the ground!!!!!

Okay, didn't get an awful lot of rhubarb from it, but its like its a 1 year old again!!!  I even took a few cuttings from it, well, divided it!!!!
