Well I haven't read all of it, but John's book is looking good as one of my favourites. It sems to have all you could need to get the best from your plot.

From the books I have currently and from my point of view, it would have to be The new organic grower by Elliot Coleman. It is an american book, but has lots of information and ideas that transfer to this side of the pond.

Corr thats a hard one, Like Elaine I've not finished reading Johns but I would probably put that as first choice, if not then my normal handbook is the readers digest "food from your garden" has sections on Veg, poultry, bee's, pickles preserves every thing really.

I havent read Johns new book yet, but books I currently own, the one that sticks out in front  has to be Readers Digest "Food from your garden"
Full of very good information on food from sowing to preserving.
I used to work in a helium gas factory, but I walked out, no one talks to me like that.

I'm with richyrich and skiprat - reader's digest food from your garden. It tells me how to grow it, how to store it and how to cook it. I have only opened the cover of John's book up to now as I have been working over the Easter week end.  :)

the allotment gardener by ann nichol :)  it's a simple format veg, herbs and fruit all in alphabetical order. plenty of pictures andchapters on wildlife, soil conditioning, pests and disease and weeds.plus it's not too large so you can take it with you to the allotment. :D
computer illiterate, a one finger typist but doggedly determined to keep up with this new technology and use it to help me on my allotment.

On the recommendations of richyrich, skiprat and matron I ordered an old second-hand copy of the Reader's Digest tome and it arrived this morning. It's looks fantastic so far - nice and retro with wonderful clear line drawings and beautiful colour illustrations of the individual fruit and veg. Thanks for the tip folks  :)
