Title: When can I move Rhubarb
Post by: Eblana on May 03, 2021, 12:46
Hi I want to move some Rhubarb from my plot to my garden as I will be giving my plot up at the end of the year.  When is the best time to move the Rhubarb?

In the autumn would be best. Sorry to hear you’re giving up your plot :(

Thanks Snowdrop.  I will be sad to give it up but when I went back after the latest lockdown half our site had been turned into an industrial site for making sheds and summer houses.  Our circumstances at home have changed as we moved to a house with a big garden two years ago and the children have also moved out so we only need to cater for the two of us which can be done from a nice veggie area in the garden, so it makes sense.

That makes sense then Eblana, be nice just to pop down the garden for a short while etc, I’d miss the community spirit on our plot, we were still allowed to go during lock down, which was a godsend really, weren’t you?

We weren’t allowed go more than 5K from our homes, we possibly could have used the exemption that was in place for commercial growers but didn’t want to chance it.  Unfortunately the community spirit that was there is more or less gone, it is a private site and there have been large blocks of apartments built a few Kilometers away.  Families who were stuck in tiny apartments during lockdowns have taken a lot of the remaining plots on as outdoor space with a combination of food production, garden and play areas for the children, they have a great community going which is great to see but there are only two or three of us allotmenters left on the site.
