citrus tree problem
« on: June 14, 2011, 21:45 »
I took delivery of an orange and lemon trees earlier this year. They looked really healthy with bright green new leaves and dark green older leaves. The orange had some flowers on aswel.

Well....they have been outside now for about 2 mths and the new leaves which were bright green, have now started to turn a yellowish colour on both trees. The flowers on the orange have set fruit, but havent grown at all. The older leaves seem very dull compared to how they were.

they are planted in large pots filled with ericacious compost, and I`ve watered with rainwater when needed, and fed once a week with citus feed.

Is the discolouration normal ???

If it was any other plant, I`d say lack of feeding was causing it, but they have been fed.

Anyone got any ideas

Where are you in the uk ?  Citrus are quite tender plants !

I think you have put them outside too soon.  RHS say they can go outside from mid-June to late September, if sheltered from cold winds.

I`m in the North West.

The advert that sold them to me stated that they will withstand the cold of a british winter up to -5 .

I put them out towards the end of the 7 week sunny spell we had when it didnt rain. in april. We didnt have any frost, and even if we had of had one, I`m in a sheltered spot. I cant see the temp dropping below +5 degrees to be honest.

So assumed they would be ok.

Is there something i could do to help them recover ????
