Here's a lovely winter-warmer:

1 lb good butcher's sausages
tin plum tomatoes
tin baked beans
1 medium onion chopped
2 tbl sp worcester sauce
mixed herbs
garlic

Grill sausages while you soften the onions in a large saucepan (in some olive oil).  Add the rest of the ingredients and then add the cooked sausages chopped into chunks to the pan.  Simmer slowly for 20 mins to let the flavours mingle.  Serve with mashed tatties or crusty bread.

Delish! :D

Just made this, used veggie sausage for me and the real thing for OH.  Braised it in the oven cos I didn't know what time he would be in.  Served with yorkshire puds, peas and mash.  Really enjoyed it, thanks, quick easy and tasty.

Not tried them yet but I will give them a go.  I generally use Quorn sausages.  I think it was Morrisons where I got some frozen veggie hotdog sausages and they were quite nice for a quick snack but thats probably cos I haven't eaten hotdogs for over 15 years.

Red Bisto gravy granules are suitable for veggies too.

When we had our vegetarian catering trailer, we used to do nice sausages, they were tarragon and mushroom, or there was the tomato and something, forgotten now, but the tarragon were lovely, even though I'm a carnivore!!  They were made by Wicken Fen Sausages and won awards, but I don't think you can buy them in the shops.  We used to get them from a vegetarian wholesalers.

My ol' Mum used to cook up a mean sausagemeat hotpot, which basically comprised (working upwards) a layer of browned sausagement, a layer of baked beans on top, a layer of mashed pots on top of that, ANOTHER layer of sausagemeat, a layer of sliced onions, ANOTHER layer of beans and finally a thin layer of sliced potatoes which would crisp up.

The result is still etched in my memory, although I haven't eaten said dish for at least 25 years, probably more.

I must call Mum and get the recipe!

I must stop drooling over my keyboa£*^)%&^%
