My mum has been unwell with a bad hart and the alloments all three are a litte untidy but are still producing well but seem to have a lot of whitefly still . can i do anything to get rid with using chemicals and any ideas on why some of my cabbages are rotten . yours Big green bloke

re the cabbages possibly 'cause the slugs have got at them with all this damp warm weather.  my cabbages meant for winter and spring have matured far too early this year and I've had to chuck a couple of spring cabbages straight in the compost.

agree with the slugs siting in the cabbage leaves and just chomping away . clear the soil away from the bases / and remove the bottom leaves that are in contact with the ground then use pellets ........... dont be chucking out cabbages that mature early make use ois them . cook as normal or make cabbage soup with a bacon hock . or feed them to the chucks ...... you can spray the fly off with a chemical from the garden centre .or wait for a hard frost ,,  ( forcast in feb by all accounts ) lady picking outdoor tomatos still in essex . hope that helps

I think Big Green Bloke meant to say, regarding whitefly "can I do anything to get rid without using chemicals.

As Muntjac says, a good frost will do them in, but they may be a while in coming. I've seen now on several sites the recommendation of vacuuming them off, using a dust buster or similar!

Try mixing in some listerene too [with the water and washing up liquid mix].  I know people that also put a touch of Jeyes fluid in to spray with former components, but this aint too natural as you know.
