I don't but I've seen the odd one pulled out - and hastily dropped - when they're at the small shoot stage. It doesn't take long for the plants to be too big and probably strong-tasting for the birds to bother with them. They tend to survive fine, just being placed gently back in the soil.

I put my onions and garlic in at the weekend. A couple of others did the same. A few others said it was too early. I got my plot a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to put something in. Thats my excuse anyway.
