I put garlic in recently and its up and off on its growing spree already, is that suppose to happen. It seems speedy to me.

hi bq yes its exciting isn't it, I put some in the polytunnel 5 days ago and its about 2 inches all ready, outside hasn't come through yet planted at same time :D.darren

I won't put mine in until end of the month or first week in November.   I haven't planted it this early in October, but I know lots do.  You need it to make a little bit of growth before the cold weather arrives.

I've never grown garlic before and was about to plant it but old Joe told me to wait until at least middle of October. I suppose you pay your money and take your choice!!!!!!!

Hi,

Last year I planted garlic and it started sprouting quite a bit before winter came and it went very well this year so I think it's ok.

Only two beds are up not the third yet. Still looking for stuff to go in. Got garlic, leeks, cabbage and swedes in. Not sure what else to put in

Mine always gets planted last week in September into modules as the plot beds are not dug yet. Then planted out Decemberish... Best garlic ever this year planted the modules out on 30 Dec.

Got mine ready to plant. Never grown garlic before so playing safe! Got solent wight and elephant garlic to try. Will plant at end of October. Planting red onions first

Dont wait till end of Oct - get it in now...  The garlic Farm have already planted their Elephants... some good info and tips here.

had a look today garlic is through in the outside beds, roll on next summer  :) also got me other greenhouse up today, nice 8x6 freebie.3 allotments,5 greenhouses 1 20ft tunnel, to keep me busy I think ill change my name to 3 allotments lol. darren

I might keep popping some in then could i do some each month till jan. Not that we use hardly any but i am trying to change that, we'll have a garlic glut next  ::)

we could easily use 100 bulbs in a year  :D running out of this year's 40 bulbs already!

I don't but I've seen the odd one pulled out - and hastily dropped - when they're at the small shoot stage. It doesn't take long for the plants to be too big and probably strong-tasting for the birds to bother with them. They tend to survive fine, just being placed gently back in the soil. :)

I put my onions and garlic in at the weekend. A couple of others did the same. A few others said it was too early. I got my plot a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to put something in. Thats my excuse anyway.
