best varieties? best place to buy them? how many plants should i buy?

i'm in the south of england; good, quite heavy soil; well draining; going to be planted in a fairly exposed spot.

There are some varieties that have resistance to powdery mildew. I had some last year that weren't resistant, and there is a lot of powdery mildew onsite, though there wasn't on my particular plot. Well, the powdery mildew on the pumpkins/squash next door got them. So I'm looking for resistant vars of black, red and whitecurrant. If I find some useful links, I'll post them here. Thanks for reminding me, I'd forgotten about me currants ;)
