Allotment thieves
« on: July 09, 2022, 18:05 »
Grrrr!!
On Thursday I noticed that the Redcurrants were ripe and the bush was laden, so today  I took my box and went to pick them. You can guess the rest by the title...
If it was just a few missing, I would just assume it was birds..... but every single one had gone, complete with their little stems. So they were very carefully picked by someone. You can guess the air was blue

And I’m sure it was done when there were no witnesses.  Take comfort in the fact that they have probably gone to a restaurant and will be enjoyed by many…  no, it’s no comfort at all  >:(

Sorry to hear this Mum. Regrettably I fear we may see more of this as the current economic problems worsen. Surprised in a way that the individual targeted your redcurrants rather than food to eat. I must confess I would have more sympathy with someone who took vegetables because they were starving than bandits stealing in order to sell your crop after all your work growing them.

I think that sadly, because of the economic situation, some people will turn to all sorts of thieving.   We're all doomed.    Mrs Bouquet

That's awful!
It's a longshot, but are there security cameras that operate in common areas of the allotment, such as parking?

I agree Mrs B.. unfortunately some people are being forced into situations and doing things  they wouldn't normally think of doing... or it's just the usual toe rags that think it's ok to steal someone's produce after they've shed blood, sweat & tears growing it!

I honestly don't think hungry people would choose to pinch Redcurrants. Think of the work, energy and sugar involved in preserving them.
If the peas or beans had been stripped, or cabbages dug up, I might think otherwise.
So that just leaves

That's so annoying - whether they've sold them or used them it's theft, pure and simple. I suppose Wales is a bit far to come for some of ours, which you'd be welcome to have.

I had this last year with my blackcurrants.  I'd have been happy to share if asked but they completely stripped the bushes and damaged two of them in the process.

That's just rotten Mum! Reds are so special and I'd hazard a guess that the thieves didn't know what they were anyway!

Around here, the thieves are pinching other people's water! That's just plain dishonesty!

Mum, I have an idea.  Put up a sign saying  "Recently sprayed - beware"     It is probably a silly idea, but they might go to somebody else.  Mrs B

Toe-rag indeed MoS - both aggravating and upsetting.  :(

Hope they choke on them!  :tongue2: :tongue2:
