Are there any types of blackcurrant that can eaten without cooking and without loads of sugar ?

i used to eat them fresh off the bush, lovely; it's just that people tend to put them into cheesecakes/tarts etc, hence the cooking and added sugar.

I've cooked a load with plenty of sugar, frozen and now I defrost as and when and use as compote, goes with anything and can masquerade as jam too.

The flavour of blackcurrants is in the skin and it doesn't come out til they've been boiled up.  Blueberries are better for fresh eating.

A bowl of raw blackcurrants (Ben Sarek) with a little molasses sugar and lashings of evaporated milk is one of mid-summer's little luxuries.

Got several pounds frozen so the 'little luxury' can be enjoyed in mid-winter too.

All that 'topping and tailing'? - I like to drink them fermented.
