Last year my plum tree had only about 12 fruits on it, this year however the blossom was tremendous and now that it is falling off there are litterely thousands of small plums.
   I doubt the tree would be able to hold that much fruit so I'm wondering if anyone knows what percentage of the tiny fruits will make it full term.
   I don't particularly like plums myself but it's nice to give produce away

There is no way of knowing - it depends on the weather, the location, the variety...

It's not so much about how much fruit it will hold, it's more about how much should it hold.

If you have a very heavy year then the tree won't produce very well the following year.
If this continues over a period of several years the tree can start to become a bienual fruiter (you will get a crop every other year)
You should let the tree do it's own drop, usually in june (but we're a month or so behind this year) then do your own thinning to one fruit per spur.

This is usually acceptable.
