leggy Spring cabbage seedlings
« on: August 18, 2013, 10:28 »
Some of my Spring cabbage which were sown a couple of weeks ago are going a bit leggy. I have had them outside all the time, but the weather recently has been warm but cloudy, with sunshine seemingly at a premium so far this month. How do you stop seedlings going leggy at this time of year, given there is no way to keep them cool? Will it be ok to pot them on a bit deeper when the time comes to do so?

When you plant them out bury them right up to the lower leaves. The buried stem will hold them steady and roots will form on the stem.

Agree with Salmo. Have found this with all brassicas before planting out. After planting, tread like mad all over the immediate planting area to firm them in well.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
