Lawn feed
« on: March 06, 2011, 20:02 »
Just a quick question!

Does anyone know if there is much difference between an autumn and spring lawn feed, weed and moss killer? I got some in the autumn, but never got round to using it. Would it be ok to use an autumn one now?

My undesrtading is that Autumn feed does not contain (much, if any) nitrogen which would encourage sappy growth just before the first frosts.

I clear moss with Ferrous Sulphate. It's much cheaper than buying this product as a fertiliser rather than as a herbiicide in a 'Moss weed and feed' package.
It's all to do with the health and safety regulations which apply to herbicdes/pesticides which makes it more expensive than if sold as a fertiliser, since those regs do not apparently apply to fertilisers.
I buy ferrous sulphate for Euros 1.58(£1.20)/ 5kg's in the gardening section of the local supermarket.
Little by little a bird makes its nest!

Evening all.

Does anyone know where you can get Ferrous Sulphate in the UK to match French prices? Lucky hobnails can get it in his supermarket for £1.20 for 5kg. E.g. www.lawnsmith.co.uk is asking £21.95 for 5kg!

this works out cheaper then your price  £2.99 for 1.25kg but get it at the local garden centre, not online!

http://www.podington.co.uk/feeding/vitax-sulphate-of-iron-ferrous-sulphate-125kg.html

or try bidding for some on e-bay you may get lucky :)

Have you tried your local lotty shop?  It's something it may well have.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I don't think the autumn feed/weedkiller would do any harm at all.The autumn one contains more potash and phosphate than the spring summer one too encourage and strengthen the root system and help the grass make it through the winter. You might be really lucky and get a nice green lawn and not have to cut it as often because of the low amount of nitrogen. If this is the case please let us know.
