Does anyone know when seeds we'd buy in shops next year get packed and released? After all the Covid fuss this year I was wondering about getting a head start and ordering some soon but of course want the freshest seed I can get hold off.

Shelf life is often a couple of years so I've already got in most of what I want for next year.  I'm not willing to wait and not get what I want.

The 2021 Kings catalogue is just out, so they have their new stock in now, other suppliers will have theirs soon as well

I've ordered some of mine also - some from DT Brown and some from Kings.

Apart from parsnips which only last the current year (purportedly), most seeds will last at least 2 years and many (particularly if foil sealed) very much more.   Keeping them in a dry sealed environment will maximise their life.   I have found the limited range of seeds at Lidl reliable (5 for £) or the slightly wider range at Wilko (usually 75p to £1.50) equally good.   For particular varieties, other seed companies charge you £1 to £3.99 usually for fairly limited quantities and extra postage.

I've also ordered  most of our next years seeds haven't received the delivery  yet still have a few more seed to order and hopefully the seed I've got left that's around three years old now mite germinate as there sealed packets?

also ordered our plug plants [flowers]  for next year and I've also started buying my fertilizer's and some sundries for next season to spread the cost a bit so it will be mainly seed potatoes and onion sets left to buy come spring
