Gutted

We lost all four chickens to a fox last night, he ate his way in tearing at the wood.
I have a proper designed coop which cost over £100, is this normal or should the coop been enclosed in a compound, I thought a coop attached to a pen would be safe enough.
How wrong can I be.

They were shut in , Im gutted !!

So sorry sluggs, how sad. Some hen coops are more robust than others I'm afraid and a fox cant be very detirmined.

What an awful sight to come down to - don't let it put you off.

I have a coop in the field next to our garden and I know that there's been a fox around as it took a poorly lamb recently. My coop is inside a fenced run that has chicken wire about 5' high. We dug a small trench and sunk the wire into that first so that it couldn't push underneath. I've heard that bricks/rubble in the trench are also a good idea to prevent tunnelling.
