Can I feed popcorn?

I have a jar of un-popped popcorn in the pantry.  It's a nice quality (ie expensive  ) organic one.  I was going to pop it up for human snacks but it turns out nobody around here likes popcorn much. 

So can I feed it to my chickens?  I know you're not meant to feed too much maize (corn) but I was thinking I would just toss a bit on the floor every few days and let them scratch around for it.  Between six hungry pullets they won't get much each.

Should I somehow crack it first, or will they just swallow it whole?

My hens have been eating popcorn for years and line up to get it. I even planted some , it grew well and i got enough corn to last a couple of years.
It is a very hard grain but they digest the half dozen grains they each get no problems.

Mine get popcorn regularly though only as a treat - They seem to know I'm going to do something interesting & noisy in the run when I hand out and generally stand there watching while snacking.

They handle the large pops quite easily but be aware they can mistake those polystyrene packing chips for popcorn!
