Emu- the hen with the ´odd´neck

Emu is still odd
During the day when she is out wandering you can´t tell which one she is, she looks normal.  Once she is in the coop at night that is mainly when we get the odd neck.  Tonight I went to check the young hens were up on the perch (5 were, 3 were not) and Emu was perching.  She had her back to me, but she was resting her head right back on her back looking at me upside down.
I will try to get a photo of her in the really backward pose.
She is a good weight and her feathers are nice and glossy (not like the older hen who is moulting- she is like a porcupine!)  so I guess she is just an odd hen

Hens, like children, never behave when you want to take a photo!

Pamela
As you can see I do not have a ´posh´ chicken house-  it is made out of re-cycled fencing, metal fencing posts  and the corrugated stuff that was on our roof (bedroom roof) before we had the room re-built.

best way!   If she isn't showing any signs of breathing difficulties with her head back like that then she might be OK.

I knew chickens were officially crazy but this takes the buscuit!!!

I had a good feel of her neck yesterday, thought I felt a lump.... it was her crop (?)     I felt another hens neck, it felt the same
Sometimes she puts her head right back along her back   Of course, I never have the camera handy then :(

i think Emu sounds great, a real character, sometimes it's the odd ones that make the best pets, ask Lonely or Pauline, don't be worried about your recycled coup, as long as it keeps them warm, dry and safe, what more could they want?  my dad has just built Eddie her own house (under the mistaken idea i had nowhere for her to go)  him "why's that bird still in your bedroom?" me "err, well, the hens pick on her, and the banties pick on her, and she picks on the cobbs and the chicks" she's ok where she is! truth be known i love having her with me, she's much better company than the dog's or the cat's, she likes the same videos and dvd's as me, and has now taken to sitting on my knee and pecking at the remote control, if i go to make a cuppa, she's there, when i check the horses she comes too, she's really good company, if i could house train her i'd be laughing (she can poop for England) i clean up after her every couple of hours and run the vax over the carpet so often it's now coming away from the wall (shrinking?) i've been told i'm mad, but honestly i wouldn't want it any other way.
