Anyone used B&Q's replacement panels?
« on: October 01, 2010, 21:13 »

Has anyone used these from 'Been and Queued'

http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=10767604&fh_view_size=10&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=polycarbonate&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1285963114085&isSearch=true

I'm looking into replacing many missing panes in the green house that's on my new lotty.

Just wondering how strong they really are, and are they worth it compared to polycarb' and perspex acrylic sheets?

Hi GF
Helped a friend put up a b&q 8x6 with those panels last year.
The material is similar to 2Ltr. pop bottles and moulded to shape to give a bit of strength.
The plastic beading strips were hard on the fingers and did not stop panels flying out in first storm! Now held in with gaffer tape.
Next door plot as same G/H with twinwall and I am always giving him his panels back.
You may be able to tell I am fan of glass unless you are next to a coconut shy.
As well different 8x6s will have odd angles and heights so your kit may not fit.
 Best of luck Bob.

Cheers Bobby  ;)

Went to B&Q yesterday, found out that as usual they only fit 'THEIR' greenhouses!  >:(

So that idea's out the window.

Priced up 3 and 4mm perspex,    I'll need a second mortgage!

Everyone I've spoken to since, says glass is still the cheapest way per pane (ish)

Most of the glass panes in my Homebase/Halls/Eden greenhouse are the "standard" size of 2' X 2' (610mm X 610mm) and those which are an odd shape for the roof apex etc are also made by cutting down from that sized sheet.

Horticultural glass of that size should cost about £3 - £5 per sheet (£4 in my case from a local glaziers) although toughened glass would be much more expensive.
