Potentially daft question re poo!
« on: November 14, 2007, 16:01 »
As you may have realised I'm a city girl, have had my plot for just over a year and am assuming that I will now need to get hold of something to feed my plot (what do you mean I can't chuck chips on it?) anyway, I don't drive and just wondered where do city dwellers get their poo from, and what does it cost (if they charge you which surely they don't?) and will they normally deliver it to you or do you have to organise your own transport (not sure I can get a black cab to do that  )

Thanks for any advice

M

Not sure about London but is there any stables near by that might at a cost deliver fresh pooo to rot down??? Only other suggestion is ask at plots/ sites around.

Actually, there is a riding school not that far away, I'll go down and check with them, one more question, what's the best time of the year to do it please?  Some people seem to say Spring, some now.  Surely as I'm planting in the spring I should do it in winter?

I would say it depends on your soil type, we do it in spring as we have a sandy soil and most of the good stuff would of washed out, at another site where it is more clay based they do it late winter, jan time. Just make sure it is rotted.

If you can get hold of some take it whenever you can. You can always leave it in a heap till you want to use it.

This is true, luckily I don't have more than 5% sense of smell (one of the reasons I went vegetarian) so I won't find it offensive, as this is a first for me!

noshed might be along soon - if not, drop her a PM.  I remember her saying that she was ordering manure for her lotty association & she's in London.

I have indeed revealed some of my top secret manure facts, via a PM of course
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Forgot to ask, do they help unload it for you and take it to your plot in sacks, or just dump it on the road outside (I ask this because if it's the latter I'll have to rope the troops in for help as I have sciatica at the moment!)

They just tip it in a big pile and you have to barrow it onto your plot

Oh poo, well I'll have to bribe some mates to help then!  At least I know in advance and won't be upsetting the locals with a pooey street...

Perhaps if I bat my eyelids at the driver
