Cucumbers on a tower
« on: June 10, 2021, 01:27 »
To save space, I'm growing my cucumbers up a tower (photo).  I took 2 large wire tomato cages, turned one upside down (wire "legs" up). The other is on top, legs pointed down, the legs of the tower are sort of intertwined for stability, and zip-tied together. It is attached to iron rebar, hammered in the ground, for even more stability.

I have grown cucumbers like this before, they love to climb the tower. The base is a half meter in diameter, so you can easily grow a tower on one meter square. Two towers produce more than enough for us!

looks great, I am also trying to go up this year with cues and squash. Bit of effort to begin with but less likely to have hidden produce and hopefully more room for other stuff

I also grow my cukes up wire netting.
I grow Tromba squashes on wire wrapped around a couple of wigwams, but the rest are left on the ground as they don't all climb.

Great idea - how many cucumber plants are there on that wigwam, S-P?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Yorkie, I limit it to 2 plants per tower ("hill").  The packet allows 3 per hill, but this is less crowded.  The other tower has one plant growing well, another got "pruned" before I got the deer fence up, but should recover.

They are blooming already, and should set some fruit soon!
