Title: Sunken Greenhouse - advice needed
Post by: basketcase on November 15, 2020, 20:49
Hi!
On the allotment I've acquired there used to be a kind of lean-to greenhouse.  I think it was 'homemade'.  It blew down in a storm and I want to replace it, but I'm not sure how.  The wooden frame had obviously seen better days and the glass had broken, so the whole of the top will need replacing.

The bottom half, however, is fine.  It's sunken about 3ft or so into the ground, the sides look fairly sound, the floor's flagged and there's a potting bench or similar in there already.  It backs along a garden wall (which is why I described it as a kind of lean-to).  I've added a couple of quite old photos so you can get an idea what I mean.  I haven't measured it accurately, but I think it's about 5x4.

Thing is, I'm not very handy and don't know anyone who is.  Are there kits - preferably one which somebody would be willing to install?  If not, how hard would it be for a total (rather weedy!) beginner to set something up?

Help!

Who does the wall belong to?
Could you turn the pics around to make viewing easier please

Difficult to tell if what you have left is rotten from a photos.

I would be tempted to start again and buy an aluminium greenhouse to sit on the flags. Keep an eye out for a handy person to help you assemble it.

It took us 2 part days over a very cold January weekend to dismantle a second hand greenhouse. So I don’t think it’s worth you looking for second hand ones unless you find a willing volunteer.

There's a number of articles on here about greenhouses including:
