Rotten Rainy Weather, Hot Stew
« on: October 30, 2021, 11:15 »
The weather is pretty foul here at the moment. Wind, rain and so dark it's like dusk at midday. Over the last two days we've had about 100 mm of rain and probably double that in total over the last week. New streams and a spring appears in the field plot. Collecting stew ingredients in a gap in the rain.

It sounds like stew weather all right.  It has been a bit miserable here, but nothing as bad as you have had.

It's really been the worst we've had. Down near the coast it's like new lakes as farmland floods. Val asked if I'd get some calabrese from the raised beds.. my feet haven't dried out yet! We're on a slope as well so normally even heavy rain doesn't leave it too badly.

If it makes you feel better, your weather seems to have come here for a bit of change of scene.  Currently rain is lashing against the windows and making a racket and I have got as far as a cup of coffee and gone back to sit in bed with it -  meh  ::)

Try putting a Katsu stock cube in your stew and maybe a few lentils to thicken it. Lovely.

As I said "..and a handful of lentils" :) Not come across Katsu - I think it had Oxo stock cube but possibly just Bisto. Whatever, it was lovely with mashed potatoes.

Had a lovely stew last week, with venison from the butchers.  Fantastic, and just warming up another portion from the freezer for tonight's tea  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

That's settled then!

Just found a frozen curry in MIL's freezer so it's that, plus some more green Cayenne pepper - for the cold you know...

Val often makes a vegetarian curry with squash or sweet potato as a base. Usually ends up enough for three meals; one for now, one for the freezer and one for the vegetarian neighbours up the hill. Yummy!

My mum often used to make an egg curry, and it was pretty good too!

I think she hard-boiled the eggs first, and served them whole!
