Heeling in the leeks

Leeks are a marvellous, versatile winter crop, standing in the ground from October to April. But as spring arrives you may find you need the space for other crops. The solution is to heel the leeks in. This will free the space for your other crops. The leeks will keep fresh and well for a few weeks after heeling in.

Whilst I don't need their space yet, my leeks are falling over and so my plan is to lift them, clean them and freeze them.  Won't bother to blanch them as they'll not be in there for very long.

That will work but I think heeling in is less effort. All depends how long before you use them I suppose. We intended to freeze the soup we made from some yesterday but it seemed to evaporate! (That's the diet blown again)
