Tomato blight - What should I do?
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:43 »
About 6 (of the 20) tomato plants on my plot are showing signs of blight but I dont know what to do with them.

As it's getting late in the season should I just leave them?

I keep reading that blight only survives on living plants, so if I did leave the plants in place and just disposed of them with the Council when harvesting has finished, will everything be OK, soil-wise, for next year?

I wouldn't just leave them as it will spread, but if it is just on the leaves and some fruit, what I did when I had blight in my polytunnel was to take off all affected leaves and fruits and burnt them.  Then kept watch every day for anymore turning.  After a while it seemed to stop and the rest of my fruits were good and I even got some more flowers appearing, although it was a bit late for them to do anything.

At the very least.... dispose of the plants that have it badly, or it will spread to your other plants and other people's as well.
