Brassica bounty
« on: September 14, 2012, 16:10 »
It has not exactly been a great growing year, but the extra space I had where things failed or fizzled out early is now making my heart glad  :D

I have a brassica bounty all ready and waiting for the winter.

January King cabbage (got 2 rows of this) bottom left with black kale next to it.  Giant PSB opposite - not sure if I will be picking this in the autumn or next year the way it is going  There is also Sutherland Kale and swede in there somewhere   Small net tunnels have turnips, mustard greens, savoy cabbage and red and green curly kale. I was having trouble with foxes bouncing on these so when I pruned the Tayberry, I laid the cut branches over and between them.  Seems to have done the trick  :D

Red cabbage looking rather lush under mesh tunnel.  Sunny gave me these plants  :D

Got leeks and perpetual spinach as well so no-one needs to remind me to eat my greens this winter

All looks excellent.  Bit depressing for me as I like red cabbage but nobody else in the family does.  Even the chickens turn their nose up to it, so I haven't bothered growing it this year.  :(

  Hardly an expert Jay.  I'm usually rubbish at brassicas but am trying really hard this year  ;)

You keep on going and with your determination and spirit, you'll get your plot going again  :D
