slight blood in POL chicks droppings
« on: November 06, 2012, 19:06 »
Please help. I have 3 lovely new chicks. They are around 18 weeks old...POL. They have not layed any eggs yet but I hope thats ok. The thing that is concerning me is the slight blood stained poo. It isn@t bright red but is a rusty red, a little more like intestinal shedding. what should I do ? They appear happy and well. Thank you for your help.

Hi jelly, if it is rusty looking, it does sound like intestinal lining being shed to me too.

If I remember rightly, that happens about every 10 days or something?

It's when its bright red you start to worry.  Have a look here:

Hope that helps!  :)

18 weeks old is still quite young for most breeds to start laying, especially at this time of the year.

My goldlines were laying at 20 weeks but the black rocks were 26 weeks old when they started to lay.   ;)
