For the last couple of seasons I've been having a problem with basil. I sow in pot of MP compost in the greenhouse. It starts off ok and then the leaves go a slightly brown colour then wither. Any ideas, please?

It only works outside for me, when there's some summer heat - other than that it's on the kitchen window-ledge, after being started in the heated prop

I never had much luck with growing basil in the greenhouse, such a poor show until on BeechGrove many seasons back they said to grow it at the base of your tomatoes in the greenhouse and have never looked back since.
The crop of Basil is amazing that way.

The slight shade means the leaves are not scorched and the food & water makes them jiucy

That's how I grow basil as well. Sown, potted on and planted up at the same time as my tomatoes. I got the tip from Monty at the Gardeners World show at the NEC a few years ago. Works really well
