Cost of installing concrete fence posts etc
« on: January 13, 2011, 12:26 »
Afternoon all,

I've been thinking for a while now to replace the leyandi with propper fencing, and I wondering shall I do it or get someone to do it for me. The reason being its a 100ft stretch and a 50ft length potentialy.

I've worked out its going to be 16 pannels one side which will cost me in the region of £700 if I do it myself, now I'm just thinking how much it would cost to get someone to install them. Does anyone have any idea's?

(yes I could ring round but not got round to doing that bit yet).

Many thanks

Get qoutes unless we have some builder types on here but I am guessing a bank loan maybe required if they are fitted based on your DIY costs.

Thanks, thats my thinking, I can see it being a lot of money! I would out from some web prices the materials would be in the region of £600 to £700.

So I would hope it would be small but I can see it being expensive.

I've moved this to Design and Construction so that its likely to get seen by those who might know the answer.

Do you mean larch lap panels?

Judging from what Brian used to charge in the 90's I'd say you are looking at the minimum of £2,500!  Brian said he's out of touch now, but that length, at least that amount!

(30ft) - 6 standard panels, post, gravel boards and 1 day install cost me £340 builder rates not landscape gardener rates.

If you can do it yourself I would - not easy work though !

Not sure where you've looked but rough costs when I was looking last year were £8 / post , £6 / board £14 / Panel. That was for small quantities I'd expect you to get a much better price for 100ft. Wooden posts /  metposts were just as expensive but more manageable.

I presume you have discounted the idea of replacing the leylandii with a more suitable type of living hedge?

Although they obviously take some time to establish and need the co-operation of any neighbours to trim twice a year they are surely better looking, better windbreaks, everlasting (privet hedges are 80 years old and counting where I am!), better for wildlife, and I would think much cheaper.

(Don't like long runs of fencing; can you tell?!)

I would like to and being honest i might well do for the other 200ft of fencing on the same run, as the cost may well hurt me way to much.
