Grass
« on: March 26, 2013, 18:01 »
Hi guys,
 ::)
As the snow has killed my grass off yet a gain, my grass is in pretty bad shape, when it rains it like having a little pond, it also has lots of moss and clover.  it has died of quite a lot over two years.
Do you think if i clear all the weeds and moss and raise the level with horse manure then reseeded it, it would grow back in a few weeks before summer? (if we see any sun) lol
Can anyone recommend a good grass seeds? any any better ways of helping it.
 :D
Thanks
Dear God, Please can you stop the wind and rain and bring on the nice weather. Amen

If you are going to improve the soil for a lawn you will need to improve drainage to avoid puddles and moss in future. Digging in a quantity of small sized gravel would help, levelling the soil and firming it well. This might sound at odds with well drained soil but lawns with soft soil soon become uneven, and then they are difficult to cut evenly.

Perennial weeds are easily dug out during soil prep.

Well rotted manure can also be dug in, or chcken manure pellets used instead.

If the area is shaded, you will also need to choose an appropriate grass seed, as some varieties do not do so in shade.

Snow should not usually kill off grass although walking on frozen grass can cause some damage.

Adding gravel will not solve your problem. If you get puddle's when it rain's you will need to install land drain's or raise the lawn at least 150mm.
