We have a composter at our house in France in which we put vegtable peelings, tea bags, egg shells.
OH has started using compost from the bottom which os fine apart from the big nasty looking white grubs.
They are about .5 centimetre by 2 centimeters.  What are they?? and what have we done wrong?
We used to have the same composter in the UK and never had any problem.

I should dig a trench and then spread the compost over the adjacent ground,  NOT in the trench.  The birds will deal with the grubs then you can rake your compost into the trench and plant runner beans on top of the covering soil.

Can you take a picture of them Jean?  They sound too big to be vine weevils (my current nemesis)...

Probably chafer grubs.
