About 8-10 weeks before the last frost in your area.

Hot peppers can be tricky to germinate they can take a while to come up and they do need heat to germinate ideally the compost needs to get to 80 degrees to get good fast germination.

You can get solutions to aid germination as well.
Everyone should grow their own veg and know where their food is coming from even if it is only a one pot on a patio or balcony Grow Something!!

Depends on variety, I've already sown my chinenses, they need a loooong growing period.

Great place to start @link Chilli database

I have sown mine also, had a propergator for Christmas,so fingers crossed,as I had little success last year as first lot of chillies didn't germinate, second lot of chillies sprung into action a bit too late for a decent crop.
if you want to be happy for a short time, get drunk; happy for a long time, fall in love; happy for ever, take up gardening

the last 2 years i've been sowing them about march but the time they are starting to ripen winter is upon us
i have 3 propagators 1) 3 foot x 2foot 1) 2 foot x 1 foot and 1) 1foot x 8 inch so giving them heat isn't a problem i was just wondering is it best to sow them now or was it to soon as some of you have alredy sown them i guess its now
thanks for your advice  :)

Main problem is light, not heat ;)

Annums can wait for a while, chinenses need to be started as early as possible

Both of those are annuums which means you don't need to rush to sow them, I won't be sowing my annums until late feb.
