I've calmed down a little now.  My own fault as I forgot to shut them up last night properly.  I can't believe I forgot - usually we remind each other.  My poor girls, there are feathers all over and I found the orpington girl's body under the holly bush.  The sole survivor (Sassy a favorelle/wyandotte cross) is very shaken.  I am completely to blame.  How could I have forgotten?

It's true isn't it that the only time you forget is the time Mr Fox comes calling  :(  It's a heart wrencher it really is

Don't blame yourself - on occasion we all forget (the one time I did was when the fox took my one of my ducks). I'm so sorry Mr Fox hit your girls though. How is Sassy doing? I know mine were all shocked and scared so hope she is okay. Big hugs xxxx

So sorry to read your bad news  :(  I too would be heart broken if this happened to my girls.  I've only had them for 2 weeks but I am so attached to them and dread the thought of anything happening to them.

So sorry to hear your news.  Please don't beat yourself up about it (easier said than done, I know) but we are only human and we do occasionally forget things... It's just a prime example of Sod's law.  Big hugs from me.

Sassy has lost a lot of feathers but is physically ok. She is very subdued and has hidden in the coop for most of the day. She hasn't eaten but has just drunk a little. I have cleaned the coop and put tonic in her drinking water. She has laid an egg this afternoon.

Oh poor you and your girls!
I worry about ours endlessly, the field behind ours had until a couple of weeks ago, 5 free ranging hens but the farmer didn't shut them in one night and all that remains is the empty run and a few white feathers.  Just hoping the fox and its cubs had its fill and doesn't come after ours.
Awful for everyone, thinking of you

Well to cap it all I couldn't find the two legbar girls last night onthe allotment. I searched for ages. One has sauntered in now but there is also a pile of feathers.
