Sweetcorn
« on: April 28, 2009, 20:11 »
Hi All
I am brand new to this (alllotments, growing your own, and this forum) - i sowed a whole bunch of sweetcorn but appear to have made a mistake with the size of pot.  I sowed them in 4cm peat pots and they are doing really well but the roots have really come out of the bottom of the pots.  Is this ok?  I get the feeling that i will need to do something with them before the planting them in the allotment at the beginning of June.  What do i do?
Your advice will be much appreciated!!!
Thanks

Unless you can find deeper pots or plant them in the ground with some mini hoophouse protection, you'll simply have to reseed later.

I'd do as Trillium suggests and find bigger / deeper pots.

Welcome to the forum by the way  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi Anniemay welcome to the forums  :)

I'd pot them on again like everyone suggests just leave them in the peat pot and put them in something larger. You may want to tear the tops off the pot as the exposed peat can sometimes "wick" up water and make them dry out quicker. Next year I'd leave it to sow till about now and try them in these Paper pots
