Post by: Jade23 on August 14, 2009, 11:39
 ???
hi we had our first egg yesterday (u probably saw the post!) sooo exciting!!  :tongue2:
Our pekin bantams are in a run in the mornings and free range in the garden for most of the afternoon, have them on growers at the mo, now we have an egg do i need to move them on to layers or is this bad for the others? They are all 20 wks (3 pekins and 1 bantam wyandotte) though the one that has laid has a lovely full comb and the others combs and wattles are still at various stages of growth?  All help v greatfully received  :)
and also thanks everyone for all your help so far, i have loved reading your posts and looking at your pics :D

I would get them onto layers asap as they have everything they need to produce lots of lovely strong eggs! i always start mine on layers pellets at about 15-17 weeks!

The advice on here is we give them free access to layers pellets all day then give greens and the odd treat later in the day! in the winter they love a hanful of corn about an hour before bed to keep them warm  :DDebbie

they are fine but only a few each as i think the high fat content if given in excess can damage liver or kidneys! cant remember which?  ???
