Chatting on the Plot / Re: What’s for tea? 2024

I made a cottage pie this morning and wished i hadn't as it turned out hot oh well never mind  :)

I bought a chicken that was reduced at work yesterday and wished I hadn’t today when I had to cook it   It wasn’t too bad as my oven is pretty good at not heating the kitchen up, but not what I would have chosen if I had known the weather would be so good.  We had baked potatoes and veg with it  :)

Grow Your Own / Re: Sunchocola Tomato
« Last post by Cavolo Hero on Today at 18:32 »
I am growing 17 varieties this year, the result of some indecision!
Six of them are new to me.
Market King, Black Sea Man, Black Truffle, Banana Legs, Beauty King and Consuelo.

Wow AnneB, that’s quite a selection!
Out of your new varieties, I have heard of Banana Legs and Consuelo.
Please let us know how they do.

I am growing Black Krim, Yellow Pear, Orange Paruche, Muchamiel, Ananas, Tigerella, Sungold, a random Beefsteak and the Sunchocola as mentioned.

Let’s hope we all have a good tomato year!

I just gave up with them in pots and grow them in the ground where vine weevil isn't an issue for me at least.

My outdoor ones went out yesterday at allotment....a good week or so earlier than usual but they were getting too big for pots, and forecast remains for warm days and mild nights for next week at least. Squashes, pumpkins and beans out today.

Grow Your Own / Apple trees and ants
« Last post by Grubbypaws on Today at 16:16 »
I have a wonderful apple espalier which I have trained against a sunny wall but no one told me about the ants! The minute a leaf touches the wall they have a bridge to invade and start 'farming' aphids. All trunks stakes and support wires are covered in fruit tree grease so they are unable to access the espalier by those routes but it is trained against a sunny wall as it is meant to be and leaves are going to touch!

Apart from daily vigilance has any one got a solution to this?

Ftf, lamb tagine for me & some cooked roast lamb for himself in a stew most likely.
That’s it freezer contents transferred to kitchen freezer & garage freezer turned off…eek…hope it’s ok when I turn it back on.
Then a shopping expedition to refill with some more exciting ingredients for meals to come

All of mine seem to be doing the same thing

Happening a lot this year, I thought it might just be the random "white" potatoes I was buying, but these were marris piper that Id specifically upgraded to as I wanted some decent mash.  Last nights did the same so I'm ruling out user error.  Need to rethink the menu as it was a mash heavy week and Im just pouring it down the sink.

Last of the casserole today, will have to do wedges.
