I have my 4 ex battery ladies, Picked them up sat afternoon. All was well, only a few beak to beak encounters after they had settled a bit, but then Sunday one of them really started picking on 1 other only, she just cringed and ran away. Now she is pecking the neck or comb of all the others as well. She will not let them eat from the hopper. ( I have put a couple of other dishes in the run with the idea she can't patrol every where). How long will this last and is there anything I can do about it. (they all cuddle together at night, which I take as a good sign. many thanks.

I am not an expert; however I understand that once the pecking order is settled things will calm down.  It was that way with my hens.

Give them as much space as you can, several feeding and drinking points so access to food is not a competition, and places to hide - tree branches or buckets on the side, whatever comes to hand.

The more things they have to explore in the run the less time they'll have to bicker.

It will settle down soon - just be ready with the purple (gentian violet)spray to disguise any places which are red or bleeding as that triggers further pecking.

^whs^ Mine were the same and I found it very distressing, but as soon as they sorted out who was who in the pecking order - everything was fine. I did also provide them with some stimulus in the run i.e. a couple of tree branches with old giveaway CDs and an old pair of flip flops tied to them for them to peck at, instead of each other!!!
