Candling eggs and turning question
« on: April 09, 2008, 22:53 »
Sorry to ask another random question.

It is day seven so I have just candled the eggs in our incubator and fertility looks good (bar one set!).
6/6 welsummer bantams
1/6 light sussex bantam :(
7/12 silkies
2/2 gold sebright

Now the embryos were clearly visible and moving in the above so assuming all is well. However, some of them had a clearly visible line seperating the egg in half top to bottom with the embryo on the darker side. This line did not move when i rotated the egg. Does this mean it is stuck to one side? Have I not turned them enough? I have been turning every 2-4 hours throughout the day, so 4-8 times a day. Should I have been getting up through the night to do it as well (although most nights they have been turned at 4am when I get up to let cat out too)

Also there was one egg that had red blood vessel but it had formed a fixed ring with none in middle and no obvious embryo -  I had read on internet that this happens when embryo dies for some reason and that you should get the egg out quick before it explodes. I have done this but wanted reassurance??

Thankyou in advance for any handholding to be provided!! :D

always turn an odd number, so that they dont settle the same way each night.

it should be looking like a spider.

i find that turning them 3 times a day is usually enough, and i candle on the 7th and 14th day.

you do not need to turn in the night, just make sure its an odd number of times each day.
I've got some in the inccy at the minute that may not all be viable, will just wait and see at day 21 - just in case!!
Happiest in the countryside.
Breathe deeply, and let the butterflies fly in formation!
