Plum Trees
« on: July 04, 2014, 16:11 »
I have had two President Plum trees for about 3-4 years now and every year I get lots of blossom on them but no fruit.  I have a small Victoria plum tree in between them for pollination but have had no success.  Am I doing something wrong?

No it hasn't had any fruit either.  It's the same age as the President, but about half the size.

I guess it's possible they just aren't ready to flower yet?

Or they would have been ready this year but got caught by frost at pollination time?  Whereabouts are you - location / climate might be relevant (you can add your general location to your forum profile so it always shows).

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Could the blossom be getting frosted? If they get the early morning sun that could be it but one or two would quite likely survive.Do both types of plum flower at the same time?

If it's none of the above they could be having a rest this year,as my old dad used to say.Mine was loaded last year this year zero. I'm sure they will be back, weather permitting.

Thanks for all the replies, I am in Bristol.  The plum trees have never had fruit on them.  I was always told that it took a few years for them to settle, but I thought I should have had at least a few.  There have not even been little ones that fall off.

My plum tree is in it's third year and has a lot of fruit but a neighbour has none on his but now knows that he planted in a frost pocket and the early blossom was hit by frost.
