Butternut Squash Emergency!!!
« on: June 01, 2013, 18:48 »
Hi All,

Can anyone tell me where to buy butternut squash plants?  I promised the OH I would grow some for him, but I have trawled Lincolnshire's Garden Centres to no avail.  I've also had a look online, but Fothergills, Marshalls, Unwins and T & M's have none either-we seem to have a national shortage!
Is it too late to grow them from seed?

They're seeds Auntiem. The OP was asking about plants!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Where are you Becky-Lou?  It helps if you put your location down.

You may have a local garden centre that does veg plants.
In Devon we are lucky to have the Riverford Farm Shop and an organic grower almost next door who sell the more weird and wonderful veg plants.

Then again...chit for 2-3 days (damp tissue in a warm place), pot up, and voila, a few days later = plant!  :)

Actually, if you read the post, Becky-Lou asks  'is too late to grow from seed'.  I planted mine last weekend.  I put them in their pots, covered them with a propagator lid and sat them on a couple of warm hot water bottles.  They are all up now  :)
