Title: Honda FG201 Honda GXV50 engine starting problems -Help
Post by: greenhead on April 10, 2015, 19:38
Hi, Just tried to start my tiller after the Winter lay-up.  Fresh Petrol engine starts but only runs for 2 sec before cutting out.  If I am quick and can open the throttle within 2 sec then engine runs OK but dangerous to do this!!
It was OK last season.

What adjustments do I need to make.

Mike.

Open up the choke?
Add a fuel treatment to the petrol (such as RedX) to clean off internal deposits.
Check and clean the spark plug.
Check and clean the air filter.
Replace the engine oil.

Thank you MickyB, I will try what you have suggested,  can I fit an in-line fuel filter?

Mike.

Sorry I don't know if you can fit a in-line fuel filter or even if it is worth doing if you can, I am not a mechanic - I was just suggesting the basic stuff that I have learned over the years, perhaps another member will be able to advise you better - sorry I couldn't help further, hopefully you have already got it running.
