Had to reply, Geoff Hamilton was my influence in gardening, although Percy will always be admired for all his work getting the Blue Peter Garden started!! Whoops, showng me age !!!

I had to say Geoff Hamilton as well. Don't really know anyone before that and I certainly am not that keen on those after although Monty isn't too bad.

Hi there, I voted Monty Don as I don't really know Geoff Hamilton all that well being perhaps too young to have really watched his programmes, although I've seen some of his ornamental kitchen garden programme which was very interesting and he made it look easy.

I think he is perhaps very much missed by a lot of gardeners.

I like Monty as he's quite truthful about mistakes he's made and makes me feel a little less inadequate when I make my own.  I think we are always learning when it comes to gardening.

I can recommend ,if you can find a copy of the gardeners world book by Geoff Hamilton...apart from John's book,  there is no better.

I've got his DVD collection and it's a pleasure to watch. Also a couple of his books and again, packed with sound advice and that gentle approach that everyone seems to love.

Out of the current bunch I like Carol. She's a down to earth sort and I like her enthusiasm. But I confess I will enjoy seeing how Joe gets on. They wanted a shake-up and that's what they've got. Why not take someone out of their comfort zone and plunge them into a sea of weeds and muck?

As for the young family, I agree with other comments that it would be nice to see a small garden and a small budget. Geoff visited many urban types for his Paradise Gardens series. And it was amazing what they achieved, even surrounded by traffic and concrete.

Geoff Hamilton ever time.

Due to age never watched him on GW but I've been watching his stuff on sky and love it

On the first week of getting my plot a lady who was leaving the site gave me a couple of books to get me started one being Organic gardening by Geoff Hamilton best book on gardening i've ever read it's very well read but i keep returning to it. I also notice that all these ideas from the likes of Jamie Oliver were printed in this book back in the late 70's.

Geoff hamilton for me.  Very sad day when he died.  He inspired me to start growing veggies back in the 80's and his "portable cloche" made out of a cardboard box helped me get started on this obsessive hobby (which I love).  No one like him.

I know shes not the top presenter but I love Carol Klein, her enthusiam shines through everything she does

I agree she is very enthusiastic and passionate about her work.  I can understand why when you see her own garden.  I think she knows she is lucky to do what she does and enjoys it to the max.

Her enthusiasm rubs off and on me too.

Used to like Geoff Hamilton and you have to like Alan Titchmarsh, try as I might to hate him.
But I like Monty Don as a person so I tend to relate to him more.
