greenhouse to hot ??
« on: April 05, 2007, 21:44 »
I bought one of those 2 tier plastic greenhouses from argos and placed it in full sun. I placed my leek seedlings in it today and zipped it up, after 4 hours i went to check them and the greenhouse was so hot that when i unzipped it it steamed up my glasses!! It was roasting, is it to hot???

If so what should i do?

Thanks for your help.
new to this, so all help and advice is greatly appreciated and well needed!!

Mine hit 46 degrees today - think I'll be getting busy with the shading paint tomorrow!  I'm having to move everything out during the day  :?

Keep it unzipped during the day (as the art mistress said to the gardener).
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Had great fun this morning spraying the greenhouse (and myself) with Coolglass - within an hour the temp had dropped from 45 to 35, so I guess it's working....

The easter bunny has promised me a set of automatic vent openers, so that should make life a bit easier too!

Best thing ever made them Mel, I lost a good few seedling in the past because I couldnt get down to open the window but now it looks after itself.

i lost a seed tray of seedlings today in my greenhouse. :x and its only April 6th

its a polycarbonate greenhouse, is it the same scenario for a glazed g/h?  i thought the polycarb diffused the sunlight ?
what should i be looking to do to avoid losses like this?

btw, it could be that the tray that was cooked, could have been from the direct sunlight beaming through the open door, not sure tbh

i do know the green house peaked at 36 deg celcius, is that too hot ?

thanks

 :)

edit - btw both vents and door was open all day today
