Title: Greenhouse parafin heater
Post by: barney rubble on April 29, 2009, 18:54
:D Hello  Just joined. Pretty new to growing but loving it already. So new I need some help on how I get the new wick into a second hand Eltex greenhouse heater. Its got a type of miners lamp on top of it, which comes off the wick holder, but as I don't want to break it before I use it, can anybody advise if the "bowl" that holds the wind up wick pulls or screws out of the parafin tank below please. I've tried tugging at it but its not for moving, and the parafin inlet hole is only the size of a 10p piece, so can't thread it through there. Its all galvanised, and I've no idea how old it is. If anybody has a similar one please could they excuse my ignorance and advise? Many thanks Barney Rubble

The top bit should unwind like mine does and did on the one my dad used to use...many years ago.
I just assumed they all unwind........but i've been told i'm wrong before ::)

Thank you - I will apply some more force to it and see if anything moves. I'm a bit worried about puting WD40 on it incase there is a reaction with the parafin or a flame when I eventually light it......
