Title: Runner Bean bag..Any good ?

As my border space is limited in my small garden I have decided to grow runner beans in a container this year. I have seen these reusable Runner Bean UV stabilized bags for sale that can take up to 10 plants.

Has anyone had any success with these ?

I don't know about these - do you have a link or description?  What depth and size are they?

You can grow beans in containers so in principle I shouldn't think there would be a problem.  You'd need to make sure you fed and watered properly though.

The first runners I grew many years ago were in 2 gallon buckets, in a back yard, prob about 5 plants in each one and they grew like triffids and cropped like good uns.

These were the first crops I ever grew and signed up for an allotment soon after as I was hooked on the taste and the pleasure in growing them.

if you go to your local pound shop you can get square ones for ...... a £1

Big trug buckets are cheaper and more colourful. :lol: and they stack away well for the winter.

They look fine but pricey. You can pick up suitable large containers at car boots for next to nothing. I've just planted my beans in two old tins baths that we had and a large plastic tub.

If you adapt something else, just make sure it has sufficient drainage  :)

I grew in plastic boxes (ex municipal newspaper collection boxes, approx 2-3 gallon)  Like Sarajane I had a great success with this method enormously prolific. Only had the last pack out of the freezer in March!  I positioned them outside the green house to shade it a bit as well.
