Hi,  how often should one sharpen the blade?  Had my mower on the plot for 4 years  now and wondering whether to sharpen the blade, if so can I use a File or is the blade made of hardened steel?

If you try and file it and the file just skims or skids over the surface without leaving any impression, then it is fairly sure that the blade is hardenend.  But I suspect not in these days of mass production.

I should remove the blade, hold in a vice and using a flat file (with secure handle)and follow the existing flats untill all bright and shiny with all burrs removed.

It depends on how much non vegetative matter you hit ,you may also need to balance the blade,youtube has vids which you could take a look at?
