hi all
i have just hatched a batch of orps all are fine except one that hatched a day late ..it was fine and running around in the hatcher but when i put it in the brooder with the others i noticed the following day it could not walk and was using one of its hocks to try and get around ..it has now got a saw hock and is still floundering around ..i have separated it into its own box now as the other chicks are giving it a hard time . it looks like it cant straighten its leg ? should i try and straighten it and splint it ? or is it curtains  .

Does it look like onesided spraddle leg?  It might be worth trying to hobble him if so, if not, then it might be kinder to cull than to let him continue

can it grip with its foot - just wondering if its ankle is dislocated or broken - does it's leg feel warm?

yes it can grip fine . we have taped a splint to the leg and are going to give it a few days and see what happens fingers crossed
